COUNSELOR

 

SUMMARY:

Provides support serves to student, staff and parents.  Support services include referrals, counseling, assessment, diagnostics, and report writing.  This work takes place at the school site, in other public buildings, and in private residences.  Additional responsibilities include student rostering/scheduling, maintaining individual student education plans, etc.

This job description may include but is not limited to the following tasks:

  • Responsible for Elementary/Secondary school scheduling
  • Provides direct support service to individual students, small groups and classrooms
  • Completes assessments, referrals, and counseling with students and families
  • Completes reports as required by Federal, State and local agencies
  • Responsible to and under the immediate supervision of the Principal
  • Prepare and maintain transcripts for students pursuant to Arkansas State Law and the rules and regulation set forth by the Arkansas Department of Education
  • Maintains student records and protects the confidentiality of student records.
  • Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the guidance department, and to improve the educational prospects of individual students being counseled.
  • Interprets the guidance program to the community.
  • Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
  • Demonstrating an effective and articulate use of the English language in both oral and written communications.
  • Works to prevent students from dropping out of school.
  • Assist with placement and evaluation of special education
  • Administer pre and post achievement test.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and administration
  • Keep abreast of developments in curriculum and instructions, and furnishes leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the educational programs
  • With the approval of his or her principal, reporting achievement test results and other pertinent information which may serve as an indication as to the level of student performance as it may relate to state or national norms to staff, board of education, and community.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by Superintendent and or Deputy Superintendent, Principal and Director of Special Services  

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree, in guidance and counseling, or equivalent  
  • Valid Arkansas Teachers License as guidance counselor, or equivalent
  • Three years successful teaching experience
